Fulton county is in the Jackson Purchase region of Kentucky. The elevation in the county ranges from 260, the lowest in the state, to 500 feet above sea level.

It was formed in 1845 from Hickman county. The county seat is Hickman.

In 2020 the county population was 6,515 in a land area of 205.50 square miles, an average of 31.7 people per square mile.

The equine population was 100 in the 2012 Kentucky Equine Survey.

Fulton county is in the Purchase Area Development District.

Fulton county was named to honor Robert Fulton.

Part of the Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge is in Fulton county.
