Kuttawa is a Lyon county, city adjacent to the west side of Eddyville. The source of the name is obscure, but it may be from a Native American language. The town was moved a short distance to make room for Lake Barkley circa 1960.

Kuttawa was incorporated in 1872.

The Kuttawa post office opened in 1872.

The population in 2020 was 637.
