Bagdad, Kentucky
Bagdad is a Shelby county community about 11 miles northeast of Shelbyville at the headwaters of Sixmile Creek and Guist Creek. It is centered on what was a station on the Louisville and Frankfort Railroad. There are several local stories, but the source of the name is not known or if it has any connection to the ancient Iraqi city of Baghdad.
The Bagdad post office opened in 1861.
