Bedford, the seat of Trimble county, is located in the middle of the county at the junction of US 42 and US 421. It was established in 1816 and named for the town in Virginia. Bedford was incorporated in 1850 and reincorporated in 1946. The Bedford post office opened in 1818. The population in 2010 was 599.
