Bohon is in Mercer county about seven miles northwest of Harrodsburg. It was named for early settler Walter Bohon or his family and was also known as Bohontown. The Bohon family arrived before 1800.

Bohon may have been incorporated in 1851, but was later dissolved.

The Bohon post office opened in 1854 and closed in 1934.
