Braxton is in Mercer county about seven miles northeast of Harrodsburg on Mundays Landing Road. The source of the name isn't clear. The proposed name for the post office was Broxton and that spelling is found on some maps. There was a Braxdale family in the area in the nineteenth century. It once had a school, stores, church, etc.

The Braxton post office operated from 1890 to 1931.
