Chevrolet, Kentucky
Chevrolet, Kentucky

Chevrolet is a Harlan county community on Martins Fork of the Cumberland River at Enoch Branch about five miles southeast of Harlan. The Williams By-Product Coal Company opened a mine there in 1918 and the town was built to support it. The name Chevrolet apparently came from a car owned by one of the mine owners or someone working for the company or a mail carrier. The mine was later bought by Blue Diamond Coal and was closed in 1957.

The post office opened as Bee Pee, probably from the name of the coal company, in 1918, but was renamed Chevrolet the same year. It closed in 1992.
