Kentucky Bend, Kentucky
Kentucky Bend is a penninsula in far western Fulton county mostly surrounded by the Mississippi River about 20 miles west of Hickman. (That's 20 air miles. By road it is closer to 40.) It is also known as the New Madrid Bend. With Missouri on its north, west, and east and Tennessee on its south, it is not contiguous with the rest of Kentucky. The city of New Madrid, Missouri is just north, across the river. The area of the bend is about 27 square miles. It was a cotton producing area in the late nineteenth century and the population probably peaked at about 300.
The population of the Kentucky Bend census county division in 2010 was 18.
