Kinross is in Clark county on the northwest of Winchester. It was a flag stop on the Kentucky Union Railway at mile 18. It was named by the railroad for a town in Scotland.

Some maps show the location about a mile and a half to the northeast on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad rather than the Kentucky Union.
