Mayo, Kentucky
Mayo was a Mercer county community about 11 miles northwest of Harrodsburg at the headwaters of Lyons Branch. The source of the name isn't known, although there was a Mayes family in the vicinity. It once had several businesses, churches, etc.
A Rosenwald school was built at Mayo circa 1918.
The Mayo post office opened in 1883 and closed in 1948.
