Pinhook, Kentucky
Pinhook is a Robertson county community about four miles northwest of Mount Olivet. The community grew around mills built by the Bratton family in the early nineteenth century, but was known as Pinhook. There are various stories for the Pinhook name and it may be related to the practice of pinhooking, speculating in agricultural products like horses and tobacco. Tobacco was an important crop in the area.
The Bratton's Mills post office opened in 1865 and closed in 1875. The Bratton post office opened in 1882 and closed in 1941.
