Powderly, Kentucky

Powderly is a Muhlenberg county city on the north side of Greenville. The town was established circa 1887 and named for Terence Vincent Powderly, a labor union leader, and was the home of the Cooperative Coal Company, owned by the miners, which operated an underground mine there. The mine was sold to the Greenville Coal Company in 1890 and was closed in 1934.

Powderly was incorporated in 1963.

The Powderly post office opened in 1888.

The population in 2020 was 778.
