Wendover, Kentucky

Wendover is in Leslie county on the Middle Fork of the Kentucky River about two miles south of Hyden. It was founded in 1925 by Mary Breckinridge as her home and the headquarters of the Frontier Nursing Service, now Frontier Nursing University. Mary Breckinridge's aunt is said to have coined the name. FNU is now in Versailles. The Wendover post office opened in 1926 and closed in 2011.
