Auxier is a Floyd county community just north of Prestonsburg. Auxier Station on the Big Sandy Railroad opened in 1903 and a town was established in 1909.

The first Auxier post offices were in Johnson county near Van Lear. The Auxier post office in Floyd county opened in 1911.

The population of the Auxier census designated place was 669 in 2010.
