Bighill is a Madison county community about 15 miles south of Richmond. It was named for Big Hill Mountain.

A Bigg Hill post office may have opened in the vicinity by 1820, but the Big Hill post office opened in 1843 on the south side of the hill, perhaps in Rockcastle county. It moved to the north side of the hill in 1846 and has operated from several locations. The name was spelled Bighill by 1895.
