Buckhorn is a Perry county city on Squabble Creek at the Middle Fork of Kentucky River about 15 miles northwest of Hazard.

Buckhorn was incorporated in 1996.

The Buckhorn post office opened in 1902.

The population in 2020 was 82.

Buckhorn Lake and Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park are just south of town.

Buckhorn was the home of Witherspoon College, an elementary and high school founded in 1903 by the Reverend Harvey S. Murdoch of New York. The school closed in 1956. It included an orphanage that became Buckhorn Children and Family Services and the 1928 Buckhorn Presbyterian Church, known as the "Log Cathedral" and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
