Crestwood is a city in Oldham county about 10 miles southeast of La Grange. It was the site of Beard's Station on the Louisville and Frankfort Railroad. The station was named for Joseph Beard, who had donated the land. The name was shortened to Beard in 1880 which lead to the town being referred to as Whiskers. The town was renamed Crestwood in 1909. The source of the name is not known.

Crestwood was incorporated in 1970.

The Beard's Station post office opened in 1857, was renamed Beard in 1880, and was renamed Crestwood in 1909.

The population in 2020 was 6,156.

The northern part of Crestwood was the independent city of Park Lake until it was annexed in 2006.
