Flag Fork is in Franklin county on Flat Creek about 12 miles northwest of Frankfort. The community was also known as Baileys Mill. The name Flag Fork is from the nearby creek, but the source of that name isn't known.

The Flag Fork post office opened in 1875 and closed in 1909.
