Hampton, Kentucky
Hampton is a Livingston county community about 11 miles north of Smithland. The area was settled in the early nineteenth century, but wasn't called Hampton until late in the nineteenth century. It is said to be named for Wade Hampton, a Confederate officer who is said to have been in the area during the Civil War, or it may be named for his grandfather, Wade Hampton, who was a general during the War of 1812. The Hampton post office opened in 1878.
