Kings Mountain, Kentucky
Kings Mountain is a Lincoln county community about ten miles south of Stanford. An early settlement was known as Kingsville, named for a local family. The Kings Mountain railroad tunnel, 3,992 feet long, was completed by the Cincinnati Southern Railway in 1876 after three years of excavation. The tunnel was bypassed by a deep cut circa 1963. The Cincinnati and Green River Railway operated a line from Kings Mountain to Yosemite from 1886 to 1896. The Kings Mountain Station post office opened in 1877, was renamed Kingsville in 1887, and Kings Mountain in 1909.
