Martha, Kentucky
Martha is a Lawrence county community about 24 miles southwest of Louisa on Blaine Creek.
The Martha post office opened in 1882.
Oil was discovered outside Martha about 1919 and production from the Martha oil field extended into the 1980s, when most wells were closed. There was extensive contamination in the area from naturally occurring radioactive materials brought to surface through extraction using water injected into wells from 1955 to 1970 and pressurized brine from 1970 to about 1988.
