Mays Lick, a Mason county community about 12 miles southwest of Maysville, was founded about 1788 and named for William May, an early land owner. The name is sometimes spelled Mayslick.

The Mays Lick post office opened in 1800.

The population of the Mays Lick census designated place in 2010 was 242.
