McDowell, Kentucky

McDowell is a Floyd county community on the Left Fork of Beaver Creek at the mouth of Frasure Creek about 21 miles south of Prestonsburg. The source of the name is not clear.

McDowell was apparently incorporated before 1930, but later dissolved.

The McDowell post office opened in 1879.

The population of the McDowell census designated place was 661 in 2020.
