Newby, Kentucky
Newby is a Madison county community six miles northwest of Richmond. The name is from a local family, although the community was also known as Jolly Ridge and Stappton was proposed as the post office name by James Stapp, the first postmaser. The Stapp brothers operated a store in Newby and there were at one time two other stores in town.
Newby may have been incorporated at one time but is no longer.
The Newby Country Store has been in operation since 1891.
The Newby post office operated from 1891 to 1939.
