Oakland is a Warren county city about 13 miles east of Bowling Green. The town was established in 1859 when the railroad arrived and was probably named for local oak trees.

Oakland was incorporated in 1977.

The Oakland Station post office opened in 1860 and was renamed Oakland in 1887.

The population in 2020 was 197.
