Ruthton, Kentucky
Ruthton, Kentucky

Ruthton was the name of the post office at Bogie's Mill, a Madison county community that was about ten miles west of Richmond on Silver Creek. The Bogie, sometimes spelled Bogey, brothers – Thomas, Andrew, and James – arrived in the area probably before 1790, perhaps as early as 1777. They built several stone houses, mills, a smithy, and a distillery beginning in the 1790s, mostly now gone or in ruins. The Bogie house and mill sites are on the National Register of Historic Places. The source of the Ruthton name isn't clear.

The Ruthton post office opened in 1884 and closed in 1915.
