Smithsboro, Kentucky
Smithsboro was a Knott county community about 10 miles south of Hindman on Carr Fork at the mouth of Smith Branch. It was named for the family of settlers who arrived in the area in the early nineteenth century. This community or another nearby was known as Smithtown. The site of the town is now under Carr Creek Lake. The Smithsboro post office opened in 1902 and closed in 1922.
