Zelda is in Lawrence county about eight miles north of Louisa. Probably named for local resident Zelda Lakin. Nearby is Kinner, named for a local family. Also nearby is Catalpa, also known as Catalpa Station or Big Sandy Station.

The Zelda post office opened in 1892 and closed in 1955. Serving the same area was the Kinner post office from 1891 to 1911 then Catalpa from 1911 to 1914.
