Cumberland, Kentucky
Cumberland, the largest city in Harlan county, is on the Poor Fork of the Cumberland River at the foot of Pine Mountain about 23 miles northeast of Harlan. Settlement began early in the nineteenth century.
Cumberland was incorporated in 1917.
The post office opened as Poor Fork in 1837 and was renamed Cumberland in 1922.
The population in 2020 was 1,954.
Cumberland is the home of Southeast Community and Technical College and Kingdom Come State Park.
Cumberland, Benham, and Lynch have been designated Kentucky Trail Towns.
