Fox, Kentucky
Fox is an Estill county community in a bend of the Kentucky river about nine miles northwest of Irvine. The name came from a local family.
The Fox post office operated from 1890 until 1953.
The Kentucky River Lock and Dam 11 located near Fox were completed in 1906. The lock was closed in 1997. The downstream lock 10 is at Boonesborough and the upstream lock 12 is at Ravenna. Lock and Dam 11 are maintained by the Kentucky River Authority.
