Spears is a Fayette county community about 13 miles south of Lexington on the Jessamine county line. It is at the top of the hill above the Kentucky River and Valley View. It was settled in the 1790s and became known as Spearsville, for John L. Spears, an early resident and surveyor.

A Spears post office operated from 1867 until 1915.
