Grant county is in the Outer Bluegrass region of Kentucky. The elevation in the county ranges from 530 to 1000 feet above sea level.
It was formed in 1820 from Pendleton county. The county seat is Williamstown.
In 2020 the county population was 24,941 in a land area of 257.97 square miles, an average of 96.7 people per square mile.
The equine population was 2,700 in the 2012 Kentucky Equine Survey.
Grant county is in the Cincinnati metro statistical area and the Northern Kentucky Area Development District.
Grant county was probably named for a member of the Grant family, early settlers in the area.
