Core based statistical areas (CBSA) are geographical areas defined by the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for use by Federal agencies. A metropolitan statistical area contains a core urban area with a population of 50,000 or more and includes the counties containing the core urban area and any adjacent counties that have a strong social and economic relationship with the urban core. Micropolitan statistical areas have a core population of at least 10,000, but less than 50,000.
