Scott county is in the Inner Bluegrass region of Kentucky. The elevation in the county ranges from 690 to 1060 feet above sea level.

It was formed in 1792 from Woodford county. The county seat is Georgetown. Scott county was a source of Harrison (1794), Campbell (1795), and Owen (1819) counties.

In 2020 the county population was 57,155 in a land area of 281.77 square miles, an average of 202.8 people per square mile.

The equine population was 7,000 in the 2012 Kentucky Equine Survey.

Scott county is in the Lexington-Fayette metro statistical area and the Bluegrass Area Development District.

Scott county was named for General Charles Scott, who servered in the American Revolution and as governor of Kentucky.
