Pulaski county is in the Pennyrile region of Kentucky. The elevation in the county ranges from 723 to 1680 feet above sea level.

It was formed in 1799 from Green and Lincoln counties. The county seat is Somerset. Pulaski county was a source of Wayne (1801), Rockcastle (1810), and McCreary (1912) counties.

In 2020 the county population was 65,034 in a land area of 658.41 square miles, an average of 98.8 people per square mile.

The equine population was 3,200 in the 2012 Kentucky Equine Survey.

Pulaski county is in the Somerset micro statistical area and the Lake Cumberland Area Development District. It is in the Appalachian region according to the Appalachian Regional Commission.

Pulaski county was named for Casimir Pulaski, who was killed in the American Revolution.
